  • 1997 GP 1200 engine ground location

Just dropped a shiny new SBT engine in my machine. I lost track of where the ground wire from the stator/generator case attaches to? It would seem to reach a motor mount bolt but those are just screwed into inserts in the fiberglass. What kind of ground would that complete? Just a little confused. I guess I'm used to grounding an engine to a frame. Any guidance would be much appreaciated. Craig

the closest head bolt.. one of the two small ones on top the head cap at the front.

It's the front carb brace bolt on the '99 GP1200.
You're going to love that new engine!

Do you mean the stainless plate that bolts to the top of all three carbs. Is it the front bolt of that piece where it mounts to the head?

Right. That plate is called the carb brace. I believe the ground wire goes under the bolt that's closest to the front of the ski (no. 29 in the attached drawing - FYI, the arrow points to the plate, not the location of the bolt).

Yup, Uncle Buck is correct, I made a note of that ground when disassembling. Plus it's in the picture! :D

Something worth noting, I think you may want to sand off some of the paint on the head where the bold goes to get a good ground.
