  • impeller question

hi all. i have a 02 gp1200r that is all stock. i think i may be in need of a new impeller. i get some cavitation from time to time on slow speed take offs. does everyone here think i need a new impeller or i have also heard of a pump seal kit. would that help or is it possible i need both? if i need both what do you guys think i should use for a impeller...brand/ pitch. any help is appreciated.

    Re: impeller question

If your not aware if you need a new prop...you need to take the grate off and measure the difference between the prop and liner to see how much clearance you have. I suggest that if you do change your prop....also install a pump plug kit to help prevent cavation....which could be the problem now.

    Regards,

          Re: impeller question

My opinion is the pump plug kit is a waste of money. It's basically a bunch of rubber pieces you put into the little cavities around the pump and intake grate in order to reduce trapped air and cavitation. Riva has the kit for $60 .... take a look at the site, they show you the rubber before and after installation.

I think it's a wase simply because you could probably do the same thing with 2 or 3 big tubes of 5200 sealant for less money. I used the plug kit on my R, but if I had to do it again I would probably just seal it all myself with 5200 and scrap rubber I have laying around. Once you put the rubber in you need to glue/seal the whole installed thing with 5200 anyway; my opinion just do the whole thing with 5200 and a putty knife.
