  • Yamaha gp1200 Overheating Problems

We just put in our waverunner for the first time this year yesterday. We have never had any problems associated with overheating, but about an hour into the ride the overheating light came on. I opened up the machine and smoke was coming out of the back compartment. I am not sure what the thing is called that was overheating, but it is the big silver thing in the back - and it was burning through the out rubber casing of a hose that was situated on top of it.

We are probably going to take it out of the water to get it checked out, but I wanted to make sure there was no quick fix. There was nothing in the propeller or anything like that. The only thing we could think of is when we got it serviced, the guy flushed it with water and he left the cap off of the water intake hose that is located under the seat. Would that have any affect? We tried it again and there was water flowing through the machine, but it still overheated.

    Thank you for any help!

friend of mine had a 98 gp1200 and blew apart the rubber hose between the exhaust and the water box 5 times due to sand clogging

If you beached the machine too hard and have sand in the system, you may want to consider doing a real system cleaning. I belive my friend had to remove his head and exhause cooling box to get all the sand out.

Perhaps the muffler needs cleaning out. At the end of the muffler a small amount of water is sprayed through little holes to cool the exhaust hoses.....
