xlt800 or gp1200

hey new guy here! im about to purchase my first ski :emoticont and im looking at two yamahas a 2002 xlt800 and a 2002 gp1200 they are both very close in price so money is not an issue. i was just wondering what you guys think? which is a better overall ski? any quirks with either one? which one is more upgradeable? and any other info you might have on these two machines.

the ski is going to be for me and my wife and we will probably use it together mostly.

If you will be riding double most of the time go with the XLT-800

Good rule of thumb with watercraft - remove on of the passenger rating for the REAL rating. GP was a two-up, really only good for 1. 3 seaters are really only good for 2.

In the case of power, IMHO - The 800 is under powered for that hull, but I think one of Yamaha's most reliable motors.

I would look for a 1200cc 3 seater for passengers. My belief is you just can't go wrong with raw cubic inches :emoticont

Cannot offer a comparison between the two but I had two 2002 XLT 800's (traded them for FX's) and they were excellent skis. No problems, very stable, lots of fun for the kids and the wife. Good luck!

I would look for a 2002 FX140....I think it would outlast the 800 and 1200...I do see them on Ebay..........
