I installed a new SBT engine in my 98 ls 2000, ran it in my driveway on the hose, idled a little roughbut I was going to adjust it at the lake. Next evening took the boat to the lake, both engines ran great rpms matched ran at an idle for a while let it get good and warmed up idle smoothed out in water with the resistance on the pump. this was all in preperation for a long weekend at a big lake not close to home. Saturday put the boat in the water both engines started instantly and we ran around the lake skiing and horsing around for about 4 hours, starting and stopping running at all different rpms with no hiccups. went to the marina to swap out some people and headed back out to the open water, lost a hat in the process circled around and shut down the boat to get my hat and the new engine would not restart. Thought was flooded so let it set for a while no luck, pulled plugs they were a little fould, engine tries to fire and then goes to cranking, same the next day after letting it set. Any ideas?

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
Sounds like it wasnt broke-in....Run a compression test to start.
What does it sound like when you turn it over ?
Is it still running oil from the pump ? Or premix ? If pump.....Did you add oil to the fuel tank to give yourself the added oil needed for breakin ?
If you removed the pump and its lines....Did you prime the pump after installing the motor ?
What caused the previous failure ? Was it corrected ?Visit www.pwctoday.com for techical help

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
last engine threw a rod has oil injection and I mixed the break in oil with the fuel I haven't done a compression test as of yet but it on my agenda. when cranking it sounds good and has some compression. there is a lanyard but the other engine is running just fine.Last edited by iwant2h2oski; 06-21-2005, 01:33 PM.They call me Mr. Incredible around these parts.

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
Ok I did a compression check last night and all 3 cylinders are at 110. I removed the flame arrestor and verified the oil injector is working, primed all 3 cylinders and attempted to start no go, it is firing for a moment and then it goes back to cranking. Plugs are fowled looks like lots of oil on them. any ideas?
David3aces I dont think it is the switch on the cleanout lid, because it cranks and the other engine still runs no problem and I think there is only one switch there that controls both engines. They call me Mr. Incredible around these parts.

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
OK first of all - what repairs were done to fix the original problem? You obviously didn't do a proper break-in as far as taking it easy - what EXACTLY did you do as far as -premixing the first tank of fuel? How much oil, how much gas, etc.?
Does your model have one or two batteries? If two, swap them and test. Have you tried fresh plugs?SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
I will check to see if there are two switches when I get home, I am also going to try new plugs it only has one battery. I mixed the fuel with the SBT break in oil, I went by the chart on the back of the bottle for mixing. They call me Mr. Incredible around these parts.

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
you were right there are 2 switches, I checked the switches by opening the clean out lid and tring to start, the engines would not turn over no cranking, close the lid and both starters work and the port engine will run.
I installed new plugs and tried to start no luck, ran the battery down, put the battery on charge and pulled the plugs to let any excess fuel evaporate, The engine attempts to start for a moment when I first turn the key and then resumes cranking.
any ideasThey call me Mr. Incredible around these parts.

Re: Yamaha LS 2000 engine quit
Follow the wires from electrical box to where they plug into boat wire harness. Unplug black wire connector that has one black and one white wire. Make sure this connector comes from dead engine. With this connector unplugged, it should spark all the time. If Dead engine now starts, you will have to reconnect connector to kill engine. IF this works you have either bad lid switch or bad key switch or bad wire harness....only do this if you feel capable in doing so......When white wire is connected to the black it kills the spark and the switches control these wires.......
