  • Torque spec sor cyl & head - 98 XL760

    1) What are the torque specs for the cylinder and head?
    2) Should I use a thread locker?
    3) Is it a two step process?
    4) Any tricks I should know?

    Thanks

Cylinder: 17 then 29 ft. lbs.
Head: 11 then 26 ft. lbs.

    Use Loctite Blue.

Thanks for the info! Do I use the blue Loctite, which is the servicable strength, On BOTH the head and cylinder? And I assume, because of the thread locker, I do not re-torque after warming the fresh rebuild?????? Please advise this is my first two cycle rebuild. Thanks again!

We use it on everything. Yes, check torque after warming and then cooling back down...if you have any out of spec, remove it, put more loctite on it then retorque it. New bolts may need retorquing - used ones typically will not.

          Hello again,
I realize this info may not be needed for stock, standard, OEM parts but for my own "peace of mind" can you tell me the cylinder ring "end gap" clearances for both the upper and lower standard rings on a 1998 Yamaha 760? (Each ring may have different values due to heat exposure.)

          Thanks,
          THE SPLASHMASTER
