Re: gp1200r sponsons adjustable???
Basically, sponsons act as hull extenders and provide more or less bite in a turn (depending on position of sponson). As you turn, you lose hull service area and the ability for the hull to bite/grab. The latest issue of Watercraft World has a great article that covers many things, including sponsons and hull design/performance.

Put them down and you can turn better and quicker. THe ski will be more stable but you lose top speed.
Put them up and you gain top speed in the straight direction but you lose handling in the turns. IT cam be a large speed difference too I have noticed 5-10MPH difference dependign on where the sponsons are at.

5-10?! Thats extreme. It doesnt seem like they are even in the water that much to produce that amount of friction to make that much of a mph change. I guess I'll figure it out on saturday :emoticonsOriginally posted by jasno999IT cam be a large speed difference too I have noticed 5-10MPH difference dependign on where the sponsons are at.
