Just recently purchased a 89 Waverunner WR500F. After taking it out on the water a few times I noticed that the battery wasn't recharging. Does this model jet ski have an alternator? If so where is it located and does anyone have one for sale? Currently, there's only a positive and negitive lead coming off the battery. If this model does have an alternator/regulator should there be another lead going from the alternator to the battery? Thanks in advance for the assistance..

If you are saying that your maching is not charging....check for a broken wire coming from the magneto/generator........heres a parts list for it

Re: 89 Yamaha waverunner.. Alternator
The 500 had a very low amp charge system on them. You MUST start with a good fully charged battery. If your batt is low or not in good condition the 500 will take a very long time to charge it fully. 2-3 hrs of full throttle operation to charge it 75-80%. Be sure the batt is fully charged then check the aprerage output between the negative lead and the batt negative. Should be 12.8-13.0 at 5000 rpm. About a 3 amp current charge. The charge coil is located behind the flywheel in the front of the engine. Check your ac voltage comong from the coil while spinning the motor over. The most common componet to fail on these skis is the rectifier, Its much easier to replace thean the charge coil.WATERCRAFT SERVICES.
