  • Gas usage 2000 GP1200r

I have a (new to me) 2000 GP1200R. It runs good, starts with no problem. My concern is I am only getting approx 4 hours use to a tank of 91 octane? There is no visible leakage while trailered, or running at idle.

This ski is stock with exception of a D plate I installed. Also the ski tops out at approx 60mph, I hear all this talk about a 65-70mph from stock 1200R's? Currently have approx 65 hours on ski (12 of which are mine).

Just wondering if there might be something simple to check before I take it into a shop locally. Main concern is the gas usage... Thanks!

be happy you get 4 hours on a tank full. If you were to hold it wide open you would use a tank full in 1.1 hours.

another thing if the motor is stock do not use premium use regular unleaded the ski will be faster. All you are doing is spending more money for nothing using premium.

Thanks Jim, I am actually relieved to hear that my ski is not screwed up! Will also start running the regular gas.

Bump, hoping others might chime in on average hours to tank ratio.

Generally speaking, I get about 2-3hrs of use on my gp1200r jumping waves.

Today I filled up and went wide open on the lake for about 1hr and burned about 1/2 tank.

haha it figures, i bought an 02 today with 49 hours on it, as with all my cars/trucks gas mileage doesnt seem to be my strong point hehe, I had an 2000 ford lightning that i AVERAGED 8mpg with(course 450rw and a head foot doesnt help)

I had actually hoped a bit better mileage though, is the 2002 any differant?

Thanks for the advice, and the info. Just trying to determine what I should expect. The speed is more than enough "as long as I stay outta competitive mode" on the lake.

I had read a seller on Ebay claiming 8 hours a tank, then spoke with a guy at the lake who has a 2001 GP12, who told me 6-7 hours. I figured the guy selling the ski was full of it, but when the guy a spoke with personally told me that, I was sure I was losing fuel somewhere.

I see upgrades in my future, may wait till next season. Want to keep cost low looking at the islandracing stage 1 kit. "need a second ski for next year" possibly a 140. Should be able to get a deal on an 04 in 2005.

                      Thanks Again all...:emoticonc

David... When you say all day? How many hours logged on the ski from full to empty tank? What kind of riding?

Reason I am asking is I am thinking about getting a 140 for the wife.

Id have to agree these things suck down the gas, got mine out for the first time this weekend (02 gp1200r with 50 hours on it) Put 4 hours on it, and used over about tank and a half.

My question is about how much oil are you all using per tank? I ran out of oil and had to put some tcw 3 (oil i use in my boat) to get it back to the dock, ran fine with no issues, no extra smoke, my figure was oil is oil and since i only needed to go about 2 miles it wasnt a big deal. But i will be swapping it all out today with teh yamaha w2, and was trying to figure out how much i need to keep around.

Aprox I quart per Tank. I try to keep 1/2 Gal amsoil in the ski all the time. I just purchased 2 Gal amsoil via the net this week. Ordered Monday, at the door step Thursday.

I'm not sure about how many hours but it was all day and we were very tired afterward....Took it to Daytona last week and rode the intercoastal...from one end of the county to the other and back....I'm guessing we rode it 40-50 miles that day (1/2 day) and used about 1/2 tank....It holds more gas than the wife's Accord......
