  • Please Help Raider 1100 Carb Issue

OK I am so so confused right now.

I just took my Raider to the lake today just after replacing every single piece inside the carbs including the needle and seats.

It still boggs down if it idles for 3 seconds of longer going to full throttle.

If you go to full speed and let off while the ski slows down and full throttle again it will pick right up again with no problem. It just does it when you idle for a period of time.

You have to feather the throttle of use the choke to get it from bogging then it goes full throttle no problem at all.

So now what ??? trust me the carbs are spotless inside with everything new and stock.

    Any other ideas ??

    Thanks,

    Chad

If you have to use the choke to get it off idle then the low speed circut is too lean. Back out the low adjusters 1/4 turn and see if it changes. Where did you set the pop off pressure too high and it will act like that.

I did not set the pop off pressure and honestly do not now how. All I know is the carbs had the brass colored spring on the needles when I removed them and the rebuilt kit came with 2 springs. a chrome and brass. The brass in the kit was the same size that came out so I replaced it with that one. I didn't think you had to do the pop off pressure if it was all stock.

I did check the plugs and compression after writing this and found all three cylinders at 110PSI exactly on the dot so thats good. The plugs were gapped at .25 so I changed that to .35 and the plugs looked real good light brownish so I must have the high set good.

If the idle jets weren't set correctly wouldn't the ski not idle correctly ??

Also how can you syn jetski carbs. I can do bike carbs all day long but this is far different.

Tech Support how can you tell if the fuel pump is going bad on one of these triples ?? Doesn't the carbs get the pop off pressure from the fuel pump in which comes from the crankcase. Could you pump be bad causing the pop off pressure in the carbs to be out of wack ???

Well I know you didn't ask me, but...

An OEM fuel pump is pretty cheap if you need one. I got mine from ParkerYamaha.com. I've heard it's important to run the OEM fuel filter, too - although I don't and it hasn't made any diff (since mine is loading up at idle too, with or without the OEM filter). I'm sure a pop-off tester and a new set of reeds (I assume, over 130hr on motor) would be a step in the right direction for myself. But then I realize I keep it pinned most of the day and getting going from a stop really isnt all that important. I'd rather ride the couple days it would take to troubleshoot the problem - esp. during summer.

You can not fully test a fuel pump, only test it for leaks. It has nothing to do with pop-off pressure...read the tech article on it for an explanation of it.

Re: Please Help Raider 1100 Carb Issue

Ok so Tech Support after reading the Tech Bulletin I understand that the "pop off pressure" is how much PSI it takes to release the needle from the seat or fuel to enter the carb but putting more pressure than the spring against the needle ??

Ok what would cause this to change from stock or a stock engine and or stock setting if I am using stock springs ??

also what is the stock springs for this ski ??

175 hours on it is it possible the reed's are bad and how could I tell if I removed the reed case ??

Now heres another question, can the carbs out of synch cause this bogging down problem ?? The reason for the question is if I open my carbs at 3/4 throttle and look at the butterflies the main carb where the cable goes to is alittle more open then the other 2.

What I have come to my own conclusion to narrow things down is if the idle mixture was off then the ski wouldn't idle correctly.

If the High mixture was out of wack I wouldnt have good top end plus my plugs would look like crap or brand new white and I'd blow the engine.

So my problem goes back to the getting it past idle. So while the engine is idle-ing I am just getting enough fuel for the idle jets to idle the engine but when I hit the throttle theres not enough to supply the high jets until the engine revs up enough to pump more fuel into the carbs.

Where should I start ?? put the lower chrome(silver) shorter springs in that came with the kit for the needle ??

Could the reeds cause not enough pressure from the engine to throw everything out of wack ???

And could the fuel pump not be pumping like it should at idle ??

Sorry for all the long story or questions I just really want to learn about this to fix this Raider.
