hello all i am new to the forum and jet skis i have a few questions if anyone has some time to help.
both of the skis have 500 motors in them and they run fine but they dont seem to go really fast maybe 30 mph the motors never seem like they run at a very high rpm i was wanting to know if anyone has ever put a tach on theres and how they did it i have carb kits ,new reeds and a gasket set comming for both and i am going to rebuild the carbs and replace the reeds the guy i got them from said they have never been changed before so i guess that could not hurt to do it . also the wave jammer if i turn the water on (using a hose) before i start the motor ( i know now this is the wrong way to do it) water comes out of the the spark plug holes would this be an exhaust gasket leak? both motors have 145/147 psi on a wot compression check
thanks for any help you can give me love the forum lots of info here

If water comes from the plug holes...it wouldn't start and would take alot of effort to get it running...don't turn on the water before it's started....30 mph is all your going to get out of both of em

no, it used to be an outboard motor and designed for low rpm

I,ve seen after market pipes and impellers on those old waverunners..I think an impeller/intake grate combo would probaly give the best results..

I'm going after one in the morning!!

          If you knew,then you'd know!

there are alot of things you could do for one bore it out and outboards depends on the use for the rpm th majority of the outboards are intended for high rpms but back to the subject you can bore it out adjust the carb settings re jet it there are alot of things you can do but it is not worth it on the older skis
