Re: reed valve in wave runner

You may notice a (slight) low end power increse but not much. The aftermarket reeds will not last nearly as long as stock. They will eventually loose their memory or break all together. They are manufactured mostly for high performance applications where they will be changed out often. The stock reeds are much more reliable and will offer better overall performance especially on the 500 you have in that 1988 model. That is basically a Yamaha outboard engine turned sideways and fitted into a waverunner hull. It is the first year Waverunner and little in the way of specific technology was put into these skis. There are not too many mods available for these old motors either. I would recommend running the stock reeds and not trying to modify. Put the money towards a newer more reliably ski and you will be better off on the long run.
