  • 701 Super Jet Reed Replacement?

I've got a stock '96 Superjet 701 (twin carb) tore down for its very first bore job along with new pistons/rings. Since I live in Michigan and it's STILL WINTER, I decided to take a look at the reed valves. I have stainless steel reeds and things seem to look fine. What kind of life should I expect out of the stock reeds? Is it worth the bucks to replace these reed petals at this time, and if so, should I stick with the stock stainless steel petals or go with an aftermarket reed?

The stock SS petals will last for hundreds of hours, but compared to carbon fiber, give sluggish throttle response. If you go aftermarket I would go with Boyensen Pro Reeds. They will run you about $100 or so for the set and give much better reponse, and still last almost as long as stock.

My stock reed in my '96 Superjet lasted more than 350 hours. I have replaced it with Carbon Fiber reed and I am happy with the performance. I have about 100 hours on this reed so far.
