2001 xl 800 will not turn over?

i am having a problem with my 2001 xl 800 waverunner. it will only turn over for about 1 to 1 1/2 revolutions and then stops, like it has a weak battery. tried new battery and starter motor and got the same results. it will turn over like crazy if i remove the spark plugs to take the compression off the engine, however when i do that it wants to stay in the starting mode and i have to remove the battery connection to stop it from turning over.i am new at this forum thing so bear with me. any help will be greatly appreciated:emoticonw

Bad starter solinoid or sticking start button for the problem when it won't stop turning over. Unplug the starter button from the wire harness when it is doing it to eliminate the start button.

The other problem of not being able to turn over with plugs could be several different things.

1. A bad battery.

2. The starter solinoid is bad and not allowing enough amps to the starter. Jump acrost the two large post with a big screwdriver if it has the same prolem its not the soilinoid.

3. It could be a problem with the wires to the starter or the wires to the battery. Remove them all and clean and re-attach them. If just one has a high resistance connection then you wont be able to pull enough amps threw the circut for the starter.

4. If you checked cleaned all wires and you are sure the battery is good then the starter would be the next thing to replace.

or, the impeller housing is bad, binding up the engine and the starter relay/solonoid has welded it's conctacts together...remove plugs and try to turn engine over by hand
