  • 92 Wave runner LX 650 (6m6) - Questions

    Been hanging around awhile.

Now it is my turn to ask for some assistance.

I have a 92 Wave runner LX 650 (6m6). It is all stock.
“I do not plan on getting rid of my ski, so if you are going to advise me to do so... Please do not bother.”

I would like some information or insight about my ski.
:emoticonn What other models can I enter change parts with? What parts?
:emoticonn What modifications can I make myself that will improve performance, as well as handling?
Flame Arrestor? – Worth it? Brand?
Exhaust - Stock manifold – Is mine more restrictive than any other stock ones that would work?
Exhaust - Aftermarket exhaust? - How much would I gain for the cost? Who still makes one?
:emoticonn Same for ride plate, induction grate, and impeller.

If you know of any companies that are still selling aftermarket parts please help me find them.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: 92 Wave runner LX 650 (6m6) - Questions

Don't know if this will help but, I got a 95 WRIII700 & just installed a Pro Tec exhaust pipe w/ TDR waterbox. Felt more power but had to go back to stock waterbox cause it was just too **** loud. The TDR did seem to offer a little more power though.

Goin to install dual 38's w/ Pro Tec manifold, carbon reeds and re jet soon. Stay tuned...

      Re: 92 Wave runner LX 650 (6m6) - Questions

      Mike,
We were one of the few shops that did alot of performance testing on the LX models. Since it was not (and never would be) a good competition platform, all our mods were centered around a recreational usage with a focus on good long term reliability.
The LXs biggest problem was the relatively small pump with the aluminum prop. Upgrading to a stainless prop makes a huge improvement in hookup and acceleration. It bears noting the it's critiacal to shim the tapered prop as closely as possible into the tapered houseing (not rocket science..but very important).
For performance, modifying the stock head for moire compression ($80) gives more bang for the buck than any mod you can do. Our most popular mod for the LX was the Sleeper Kit (cylinder porting, head mod, cooling upgade, carb jetting, & inlet manifold mod ($529). This kit made all the power that the stainless steel prop could hook up, and made a huge increase in the speed (and fun) of the boat with no loss in reliability at all. Back in the day, we did a Sleeper LX for Yamaha that served over 400 hours as one of their "Club Wave-runner" machines.

      Respectfully, Harry Klemm Group K
