My 2002 XLT800 takes off slowly. What can I do to beef this up? Or is something wrong?
Sometimes coming out of a sharp corner it almost feels like its cavitating.

Does it rev and not go, or does it not rev? -
It revs and goes but it almost sounds like its cavitating.
I compare it to my Polaris SLT 780 and the Yamaha is sluggish out of the hole or coming out of a hard turn.Comment

It can't rev and go, and be slow at the same time.
It either revs slowly, or it revs and is slow - if it revs ok then you are cavitating - look at the Inspecting pump for damage - article in the Tech article section of this forum.Comment
