  • 1100 wvt engine/piston failure

I'm 100% new to this sport so please excuse me for any dumb questions or comments. I just picked up a 1995 wvt 700t that had an 1100 engine. It sat for 4-5 years and the seller said the engine was locked up. After a new battery and a few drops of oil in each cylinder it turned over. A shot of starting fluid and it cranked immediately....yes, I only let it run for 15 seconds. Hopes were high and last weekend I put it in the water. It ran perfectly for about 15 minutes and at full speed (50-52mph) it just died. It cranked back up almost immediately but soon started running around 34mph and would die again. It would then bump back up to a good speed and then back to 32-34mph and die. The starter may be a separate problem but after each time it died the starter did not want to turn over until it had a few minutes to cool. It soon totally stopped and we jumped it off with a running car. Big mistake! A small sizzle and a tiny puff of smoke came from below the muffler system. It did crank but that would be the last. What all could have fried? Just the starter or other components? I took it home and was able to barely turn the shaft by hand and pistons 1 and 3 are moving but 2 is stuck at the top of the cylinder. Would a top speed of 32mph indicate it's running on only 2 cylinders? Did the middle carb fail causing the middle cylinder to over heat? If the middle cylinder was getting no fuel or oil would it cause the piston to fail? Is it likely that the rod failed? I know I need to go ahead and break down the top end but I don't want to waste too much time. Any help is appreciated. Live and learn!
    Thanks,
    Greg

when yo get a new engine make sure you fix the carbs , there prob clogged up and you were sezing the pistons to the cyls . if you go with an SBT engine i would suggest that you pull your engine first to inspect the case , if you broke a rod you prob broke the case also so you will need a core engine .
