  • Sank my ski!

Tied up at the dock, left the plugs out... yadda, yadda, yadda. Not completely submerged, close.. and nothing in the block to my knowledge. It started, I ran it a while. However, to get the starter to stop spinning I had to disconnect the battery... Now I start my ski ('01 XL800) by touching the ground cable to the battery. Is there a relay or solonoid that may be damaged?

Yes, inside the electrical box where the spark plug wires go.

FYI - It was the solenoid! Fortunately...it's much cheaper.

The parts guy gave me a good tip to determine this before replacement (helps because they won't take back installed electrical parts).

He told me if you remove the brown wire and reconnect the battery and the problem continues then it's the solenoid. If you disconnect and it stops then there's a short "above" the solenoid that's feeding that wire voltage when it shouldn't be.
