The bottom edges of the reeds were burnt in a few places and it was starting to de-laminate in the burnt area. Is this normal for this ski with around 100 hours on it? If not what may be the cause?
I have attached 2 pictures of the worst 2 valves. In my previous post I should have said they look burnt not that they are. This is only the 2nd set of reed valves I have seen and the 1st ones were steel and looked clean. These appear to be a composite material. They are stock.
Do they look normal for a machine with 100 hours on it? (other than the broken part)
The good news is that we took the ski out today and after replacing the reeds, putting in a D-plate, putting on new PV links, and rebuilding the carb it ran great.
What did the reed blocks look like ? Did they have the same pattern ?
By pattern I meen how the marks go from one pedal to the next in uniform...almost like it was done with a torch.I have never seen burnt reeds myself...
Pics are a little blurry...cant really tell much from them.
My guess would be some flames were present after the reed petal broke off and the engine continued to run. But, the pictures are blurry on my screen so I cannot really see any detail.
