Yamaha 1100 Wave Venture

My ski seems to run out of gas before the tank is truely empty. I have 2 bars left on the guage. When it runs out I have no reserveve or at least it will die when I go to reserve. I don't know if the gas has to re-syfin if you go to reserve or not. All I know is it dies immediately when I go to reserve. After it runs out I am able to idle in OK but I do need to get another 5 gal to run hard. The tanks does have gas when this happens because I can see it in the plastic tank. Any help would be great!!

check and see if the on and reserve lines were swapped by mistake. the on line is shorter than the reserve. the other culprit could be the on off switch
