1997 Yamaha Wave Venture

I recently purchased the above waverunner with good compression on all cylinders and appears to be in excellent overall shape with 100 total hours. I was researching the powervalve issues and came across the following post.(2004's don't need updated valves, only 1998-2001's and some 2002's.) Is this an issue that I need to worry about as it is a 1997 ?
Other than disconnecting the oil pump and going to pre-mix / or replacing the oil pump is there any other maintenance that you would recommend for a model of this age? Thx In advance...

The 97 wave venture does not have power valves. :)
