  • engine help...650 vxr not mine...

    Hello,

A friend lost compression on his ski. He took the top end off and this is what he found. I am thinking ring broke off and caused dammage.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    OUCH!
Looks like what happened to my outboard. Figured the ring must have been a little too crusted to the wall one spring upon startup. It ran ok cuz I mostly trolled with it. But when I stood on it to get home one evenening, the ring busted off inside the cumbustion chamber and :emotredf. I was able to resleeve and rbld the cylinder. Your friends does not look near as bad.
So yea, a new top end looks in order.

I thought the top end would be fine, just a new piston and new set of rings(assuming the wall can just be honed and does not need to be bored).

Head didnt look too messed up.

I told him the same thing.

He said he is trying not to get into this too deep. He has had it since new, and will be buying a new yammie this spring. Since we all know that if they are not running, these are worthless, he is trying to get out cheap.

Leon, Cheap? lol we both know how that works if he doesnt do it right first time. scored cyls rarely hone out usually require bore. i have seen cyls for this motor on ebay recently. check there or hes got a good corefor sbt. local shop could probly bore it resonable and put in next oversize piston set is more than likely the cheapest out.
hey by the way give him my name ,lookin for parts for that ski (hehehe) I'm a patient man lol. BOL
