  • Oiler/Oil assembly injection

    I just purchased a 1999 Yamaha SUV 1200 w/98 hrs and I test drove it perfectly fine. Runs 55mph. Seller rebuilt carbs.
    Next day I went to crank it to flush out any water for winterization and the oiler broke. See pics.
    Has anyone ever seen this? What may be the cause? Is this a simple repair? I'm knowlegdable with motors.

    I hope the pictures attached.

    its definately not a common problem, and also going by the loose exhaust bolt there most likely was work done to that engine. Now would be a good time to switch over to premix, but reinstalling an oil pump isnt that difficult

      Check flywheel bolt under cover to see if it's loose.

        Checking flywheel bolt was exactly what the seller said to do also. He is sending me a new oiler at his expense. I will check flywheel bolt tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!!

          If you have loose bolts - you need to pull the engine and go over it from scratch - it sounds like you got an amatuer's learning project, and if it's gone this wrong, believe me it's not over.

            I guess that is not good news.
            I check all bolts I could and also checked to make sure that the painted bolts where not touched. All painted bolts are intact and not scuffed at all.
            Would that be a better sign? It appears to be that the exhaust and carb area where once removed but nothing internal.
            I plan before season to trpile check and possible pull out.
            Is it easy to pull out? I'd like to replace motor mounts. How hard is it to put back in at correct angle?

                Just be glad it didn't happen when you were on the water or you would in some serious $%#&. Switch to premix...this is one of those signs they talk about.;)

                  I found that the flywheel bolt was loose when we pulled the flywheel off with the cover!! The bolt goes back tight into the hole.

                  What could cause the flywheel bolt to become loose?? Do you think that is the reason that the oil injection pump broke??

                    How about failure of assembler to properly torque component? This is based on all of your previous information from the posts above.

                    A loose flywheel bolt will indeed cause exactly the type of failure you have described, and also posted photos.


                    As stated earlier by Tech Support:If you have loose bolts - you need to pull the engine and go over it from scratch - it sounds like you got an amatuer's learning project, and if it's gone this wrong, believe me it's not over.

                    Time to double check EVERYTHING!!!!!!
