The spark plug stop is the way I'm heading. take a bad plug and bust out the porceling and use the housing, all I need then is to braze some brass rod and cut it at about the cylinder top, same as your washer height, and walla. No need to take the head out save a gasket and check it out before I go tearing a block apart. This way I know what I have. :D
