  • Yamaha GP 800

    Hello.

I am in the process on buying a 2000 GP 800 for $3000 with around 80hr. Is this a good buy?
According to the owner the engine was rebuilt by SBT a little more than a year ago. Is there any way that i can check if thats true?

    Thanks.

there will be a number on the engine , find it and call sbt they will tell you when the engine was sold and if theres any warranty left . if it is one of there engines . always have a used ski checked over by somone who knows skis well before you buy and always run the ski on the water for 30 min or more before buyin .

I do not know anyone who was happy that they bought a GP800.

Because of the PV issue or is there more bad things about this ski?

          Cool.

My second question is: If the engine was in did rebuild by SBT a little more than a year ago like the owner states should i still worry about the PV problem?

          Thanks.

No, not so much about wether or not it has power valves, it is just they wished they had bought the 1200 model instead of the less powerful 800. I kind of compare the power differences to the 1997 Sea Doo XP vs the 1998 XP. The extra power makes a huge difference in the fun factor. We buy these things to have fun, don't we ?

I bet the 1200 is more fun. If money was not an issue i rather go 4 stoke but i just cant afford anything over 3k and i like the fact that this ski is a 00. So at this point i am looking at something that can be reliable.

On another topic how many gallons of gas this thing can carry and if anyone can tell me whats the mile range per thank.

                  Thanks.

                    Re: Yamaha GP 800

13.2 GALLONS and it burns 12 gallons an hours at wide open throttle.

In the real world you will probably get 50 or 60 miles on a full tank

I think if you shop around, you could buy a 1200 model for about the same money as the 800. And, they both run of of gas after 60 miles or so...

Personally, I would rather buy the 1200 without power valves. They are very reliable if left completely stock, and they modify easily to go very fast should you ever desire more speed.

                          Re: Yamaha GP 800

There won't be any power valves hanging on the side of the clyinders. Or buy one that doesn't say "R" after the nomenclature. GP 1200 ( non PV ) as opposed to GP1200R ( PV ).

How big of a job is to fix the problem with the PV's?

Go to the online parts catalog here at SBT and look at the kit, it is cheap enough and not so hard to install.
