looking at a 99 gp1200 but has a problem

hey everyone, im in the market for a 99 gp1200, ive found one about an hour away and am possibly going to look at it. The owner stated that it has a new STB engine about a year ago, but doesnt kno the hours....the ad stated that it needs carburetor work, so when i called him i asked and he said it starts up fine out of the water, but when you go to run it in the water when trying to get up to speed you have to feather the gas, and it only gets up to about 45 mph tops....

hes asking 2000, with no trailer.......

what does everyone think? broken reed? carb problems?

Check the crankcase seal... Put your finger down there and check for nice shiney silver metal material.. I just had this issue with my GP1200, feathering out of the hole and picks up speed after that.

If the motor has warranty still, send it back to SBT.. Great cust. service team!
