Need Tech Info Yamaha 1998 GP760

Hopefully some one can help me out i have 2 issues 1 is severe starting problems cant hold prime even with check valve installed causing engine not to turn over unless use hot shot.
also have cavitaion and pourtpoising problems cant get machine planed out hopefully some one can help me out thanks
