I installed a SBT 701X core into my ski in April. When running the ski this week, it sounded like a loud backfire occurred and it lost all RPMs, noticed smoke near back of engine. After inspection noticed that both oil seals (S-type and SD-type) on the crankcase are blown out.
What would cause this to occur?
How much damage is this issue?
These seals came with the engine core from SBT.
Break-in was performed by the SBT recommendations (Used 32:1 gas/SBT break-in oil), replaced oil pump and went to pre-mix fuel
This is approximately the 8th tank of fuel (gas and oil mixture 50:1) after break-in period.

Backfires through the exhaust are usually caused from running too rich. They also blow out the rear seals. I would recommend rebuilding your carbs and changiny our needle & seats.

Please call in to warranty and we'll get your engine swapped out for you. 877 330 0231
