  • 1997 GP760 starting problem...

I got a 1997 GP760. I have a wierd issue going on...the jet ski intermittently won't start. When I pull out the engine fuse (behind screw on cap in electrical box) and disconnect it and reconnect it, it starts perfectly. When I shut off the machine, I need to "reset" this fuse almost every time I want to start the machine.

My thinking...a starter or solenoid problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's kind of ghetto but I ran the wires from the fuse all the way up to the dash and have reloated the fuse up by my handlebars. Now I don't have to take the seat off to do it out on the water. I can pull the fuse and replace from the riding position. I would love a fix for this though... Seems like someone would know why this would happen.

Mine did this too. Discovered that if I entered the four(4) letter code for the security, the problem was solved on mine. Hope this helps.

          1997 GP760 starting problem

Hey guys, I have a 98 GP800W and it just started acting up. When I put it in the water, it starts easily everytime and starts out running great. After about an hour and a half of riding not constant, starting and stopping it begins to lose power. Starts out fluctuating between 4000 and 6900 RPMs and after about 5 minutes it wont get over 4000 RPMs and cant get above 25 MPH. There just isnt a powerband. If I let it sit overnight, I can ride it again the next day like it never had a problem, then an hour and a half later it starts again.

Also, I got rid of the oil pump and premix my fuel so it isnt seizing up. Does anyone have any ideas?
          Thanks

Check the compression when its hot, Just because you are running pre-mix doesnot mean you cant have a lean condition, If your not running enough fuel and oil mix through the carbs you can still burn up the cylinders.

Lideberwelp -SBT guru is on target with your ski.

The others guy’s sound like your gauge cluster is going to gauge cluster heaven soon.
You can actually disconnect it and just connect the lanyard kill switch directly to the engine harness, the connectors won’t color match but this will take the gauge out of the system so that you can trouble shoot without the ghetto rigs or in my case barrio rigs :)
