  • Won't stay charged

I just bought a 1988 Yamaha WR500G. It runs fine but, only till the battery runs down. When I recharge the battery it's ok again. Can someone help with my problem? Like, what part should I change? Thanks

How old is the battery, sounds like the battery wont hold a charge. If you have cold winters, the battery only lasts about 2-3 years and thats if they were put on tenders in the winter

Put a DVOM onto the battery, note the battery voltage... start it, does the voltage increase ?

If no voltage increase, charging system likely took a dump.

Find a NISSAN or Hyundai dealer, and see if you can talk a tech into doing a MIDTRONIC test on your battery for maybe a happy meal or a drink.

If your battery is a YB16-CLB, then the test amperage will be 195 Amp.
