It's behind the flywhel. You can try to pull the flywheel with the engine in the hull. If you can't get it to pop off you'll have to pull the engine out to the bench. Sometimes it takes air tools, but it's worth trying.

Hi,
Does anyone know where the starter bendix is on a 1999 XL760? On the starter itself or in the flywheel housing? If in the housing I will assume that the motor will need to be pulled for replacement?
