Up to 20% throttle first 30 min, then 30 min break. Up to 50% throttle for 30 min, another 30 min. break. Engine is running great. Went back for up to 90% throttle. A little hesitation, but then felt it "kick in" and reached 54 mph easily. Did this 4 or 5 times with hesitation each time. Then after that, it would not go faster than 35mph. Gas got low so I took it out and went home. Is there something I can check, or is it time to take it to the shop?

Original cause unknown, cylinder 3 scored, loss of compression. Repairs are as follows. Remove engine per steps on this website, break complete engine down to clean, re-coat bad cylinder with nikasil and replace piston & rings on bad cylinder only, break down carbs to clean and rebuild, replace 3 power valves and seals. Replace all gaskets on engine, intake, carbs, and exhaust manifold, basically replaced any gaskets or seals that were separated during engine removal and breakdown. Leak down test at 10psi for 10 min.Comment

Assuming (no way to know now) you had a carb issue to begin with - if it's back, you missed something in the carbs. You may have another issue, but you'll need to examine your curent block for it's damage now to point in the right direction.
