  • piston top deposits

I had to pull the engine down for a bad crank seal, pulled the top end while I was at it.

Pistons, sleeves rings all look good, but top of pistons have black (and gray) hard deposits. looks like carbon, but glazed.

#3 is dull gray, #1 &#2 are black. No pitting,

    Diagnosis? normal, or carb issues?

    How to remove? polish? solvent?

#1 is front, on the left of the pic. #2 & 3 look like they were either getting washed or running rich. Either way you don't need to do anything to them.

one more thing, now that it is all back together, do I need to go through the full break-in ritual, or just take it easy for a tank-full?

If you is prety much running what you started with, I'd just run around fir first tank, no extended WOT if new rings, vary the load.

thanks, did that, seems fine, idles better than before. can't wait to run out the 32:1 with seafoam, and get back to regular mix. should run even faster than it did last night.
