  • How to Prime after carb rebuild?

Ok I have a 1999 Yahama GPX 1200 that I just rebuilt the carbs on. Now it is not getting gas. HELP!!! I was told that after the rebuild I needed to Prime the system so that I get vacuum back and get gas to the carbs. Anyone know how to do this? Or have any other suggestions what might be wrong? I would be most greatful for any help...

To save grinding on the starter, I just use a small squeeze bottle with gas in it, squirt some into the carb throat, hit start button, let engine light up on that fuel and the vacuum pulses from crankcase do the rest via the fuel pump.

May need to do it a couple times till fuel circulated.

Thanks for the suggestion.. I tried it, no go, it will run for a minute on the gas from the squeeze bottle then die, still not getting gas to the carbs. So in light of that I would have to say my fuel pump is shot. :(

But if you have any other suggestions before I run out and buy a new fuel pump I would be greatful.

Re: How to Prime after carb rebuild?

Your fuel pumps are on the carbs. You have one on each of the carbs on that ski. You should have rebuilt the fuel pumps if you rebuilt the carbs. The parts are included in the rebuild kits. If you are positive that the rebuild assembly is correct and the impulse lines are hooked back up to the engine case, then you need to check for fuel restrictions in the system. Check your fuel valve, filter and lines. Make sure the fuel supply line and return lines are correct.

Ok I'll recheck all of that. I have had this ski for over 5 years now and never had any problems with it before now.

          Thanks,

Just curious, if you haven't had any problems, why the carb rebuild? Just preventative maintenance (always a good idea on a ski of that age)?

Yes & no I had started to have problems with it starting and found out that one of the rubber seals had finally gone bad, so I rebuilt the carbs. Until this I just did regular maintance to it and it ran great. (aside from putting in a high preformance intake and impellor)
