  • 800 xlt carb settings

If I sent you a set of plugs, would you look at them and give me your advice. I have black color on the rim, but the electrode does not look right to me. I am no expert and I want to make sure I do not have a problem and burn up my SBT engine.

You cant get a good reading by driving around and checking every once in a while. There is a specific way to do a plug check and that is the only way to get true readings. It does take time but it is a great thing to know. Call Me and I will explain how to do it. Tom SBT tech.

I have been following the guide in the tech article on your website about reading plugs.

            Tom,

I followed the plug reading procedure we discussed on the phone. At the 1st 10 sec, the color covered about 3 hours worth on the 6 to 12 side of the clock face. At 20 sec it colored from 12 to 7 in the counterclockwise direction. At 30 sec, it colored all the way around to 5. At 50 seconds, it colored around to about 3. Both plugs were more or less the same. Since I had gone beyond 6, I stopped and decided to make a significant change in the high speed needle setting. I started at 3/4 turns out, so I went all the way to 1 and 3/4 turns. There was absolutely no change in engine performance. I am convinced this is a day one problem. I will call again and discuss.
