  • Yamaha Raider 701 No Spark?

Just Getting ready to dig into this one, It died last summer. It started cutting out while driving once in a while then got worse, then finally it completely lost all spark. I am boaring and putting new pistons in it, just need to find my spark problem. Any thoughts?

I've had the motor out of this thing twice already due to burning through rear piston. Would like to make this time the last.
    Thanks,

    Jeremy

OK the fire check your kill swicth first than move to the stator, etc.
The cylinder probably is a air leak. You mention second time, did you do a top end rebuild?

Yup, I did the top end 2 times, It's most likely an air leak, I was told that silicone would suffise for a head gasket, guess what, it doesn't. I've got a hook up that is going to coat the skirts of the new postons I get to see if that helps slow any wear...

I'm interested in checking out the kill switch, I'm guessing that jumping the wires would illiminate it from the system for checking. I'm not sure how to check the stator though... Is there a good resource for service manuals for these things online?

      Thanks for the advise

Take no advice from the dood who told you to use silicone for (or on) your head gasket. They should always be new and dry.

As for your electrical problem..I was chasing down a similar problem on a friends ski not long ago,it turned out being one of the wire connections leeding up to the handlebars. If its not there, looking at the kill switch with it dis-assembled,you should be able to see what should be hot.As for the stator,I cant help ya there

          good luck
