Problems -- only 20 hours on it...

Hook it up to the hose and starts right up, runs fine, revs up really fast to 7000 in a heartbeat....

Then when you put it in the water, starts right up, takes off for 5 seconds and then falls flat on its face.

Take it back out of water, hook hose back up to it, sounds perfect....

Changed spark plugs, --- What next? This has the separate oil and gas tanks. Thanks in ADVANCE :)

        Re: 2005 XLT Yamaha 1200

        A few checks!

        1. When it falls flat have you taken the seat off? See if there is water inside the engine compartment.
        2. Is there smoke inside the engine compartment?

If the above answers are yes, check your bracket holding the water tank (muffler) under the rear bucket. Ensure is secured properly. Also check the front bracket in engine side. And then check and tighten all brackets in the exhaust under the small bucket.

XLTs loose back pressure when this bracket is loose and it bogs down.

        3. Have you check the W-Temp sensor, the small one on the end of the stinger. If its acting up you should see a warning on the multi console W-TEMP. If you are getting that, replace the sensor.

It controls the CDI by putting it into fail safe mode, thus the bogs.

Sensor cost $133 at the dealer #44 in the exploded views called the
Thermo Assembly swith. NOT THE OTHER SENSOR WHICH IS EXHAUST WITH THE BLACK AND ORANGE WIRE. Best of Luck!

Suggestion: West Marine carries some stainless steel hose brackets for boats $16.00 Replace the cheap ones Yamaha uses on the bottom of the stinger which connects to the water tank muffler. 4 & 3/8 size should fit perfect. I changed the one in my ski. No more loose muffler.
