1995 Wave Venture 700 Starter problem

Starter went after 14 years & you guessed it, it was stuck in the housing. I did get it out but the part the O-ring is attached to broke off the starter and is stuck in the housing-please tell me I don't have to pull the motor or the flywheel cover off :( to get this piece out. Is there a good solution to get this removed??

The flywheel cover and flywheel must be removed to pound out the broken casing of the starter thats stuck in the front housing. (sorry for the bad news).

Thanks for the reply-I was afraid of that.
Does the gas tank have to come out for this or is there room enough to work without pulling the tank.
