  • 89 waverunner hard starting

My 1989 500 cc waverunner needs to be choked when starting. Once it is running, it runs fine. I noticed that the fuel filter only fills about 1/3 of the way when cranking. Once it starts, it runs great until it is allowed to idle for about a minute. Then it will stall and most of the time, you need to use the choke to get it started. Could my problem be associated with the fuel pump diaphragm? I have heard of primer kits for these. Might that help this problem?
    Thank You

Start by re-building the carb and fuel pump. If your issue still exists then you may have an issue with an air leak in the crank case. This would cause a lean condition and at that point I would say to take the crankcase apart and replace the crank seals and re-seal the case.
