  • XLT 1200 Fuel in cylinder and exhaust manifold

We put a new SBT engine in the ski late last year. It ran for a total of a couple of hours without problem.

We winterized the engine in the fall of last year.

This weekend, we went to start the ski and found that the cylinders were full of fuel. There was also a large quantity of gas/oil mixture in the bottom the hull. We assumed we had a fuel line leak to have so much gas in the bottom of the hull, so we pulled the exhaust system to find our gas line leak. When we pulled the exhaust system, we found that the large exhaust manifold (the large pipe that wraps around the front of the engine) had at least a pint of oil/fuel mixture.

There isn't any leaking fuel line we can find so the fuel had to come from all of the fuel in the exhaust system.

We are stumped as to what's wrong that would put so much fuel into the exhaust system.

    Any suggestions we are stumped...

Check the diphram on the fule pump. I have a different ski, but had a simular problem with the cyclendar's filling with gas. On mine the diaphram in the fule pump (on the side of the carborators) was split. The diaphram separted the supply and return sections of the pump. The gas was being pump into the scavage port, directly into the intake manfold. Good luck!
