  • 1998 Yamaha XL1200

This ski has been in the family for years. 2005 was the last year anyone rode the Yamaha and it has sat until now. So far I have pulled the engine and I have an exchange on the way from SBT with all the gaskets and needed parts. I dropped the carburators off locally with a guy to have them re-built. I think I should have all this put back together soon and have the same guy who rebuilt the carbs tune them. One thing I have not found during my readings is anything about timing? Is there something I should do? I am trying to upload pictures from my I phone but it is being a pain.

Does anyone have diagrams for the cooling lines, I want to double check to make sure I get them correct.

hi, i guessing you have the same motor as mine ?..mine is a 1999 xl limted 1200 waverunner..so..if yours is a 2 stroke..it shouldn't have anything for timming..only thing i know it has..is the pick up coil on the stator cover..other than that..it's controled by the c.d.i..i'm kinda new at jet ski's..just not motors..maybe we could help each other out on our rebuilds..i'm waitting on parts for mine to come in..mine threw a rod through the crank case..# 3..pto..cylinder..piston..raves..all were shot..as for your cooling lines..if you kept them in the ski..they should hook right up to about where your motor sets...i left mine in the ski...anyway..good luck on your rebuild.

I will try and take more pics when I re-install. I left all the lines in the ski and there was just one that ran across the top of the motor that came out so I do not think it will be hard just want to do it correctly. My new motor comes on the Fed Ex truck tomorrow but my boat motor is also complete and I need to get it painted and back in the boat first. I will try and post more if I work on it this weekend but highly unlikely.

Anyone know the best way to diagnose the oil pump to make sure it is operating correctly? I have the new motor but not sure when I am goign to get it installed, something came loose and did damage in one cylinder but the second cylinder not so sure. I do not want an oil issue to burn the new motor up.

Well new motor and just dropped the coin for a new oil pump. The folks did not want to pre mix the gas so I figured I would do it the correct way. the only thing I am looking for now is something to hold those small 1/8" oil lines instead of those zip ties? anyone have a link to something?
