FX 140 running badly - gas smell

My 2004 FX140 backfired out on the water and ran poorly afterwards. Seemed to be missing one cylinder. Changed the plugs, runs better at the dock, but smells like gas out the exhaust. Any ideas? Do not want to take out until I figure this out.

You might have a fuel injector staying open and dumping fuel into one of the cylinders, see if one of the cylinders is filling up with fuel.
