2002 GP1200R slow out of the hole?

why is the gp1200r so slow out of the hole? i've ridden tons of skis and for a ski with this big a motor and mid - high range power its slow as christmas out of the hole. from a stand still when you firewall it, it seems like the pump might be loosing grip or cavitating and it pretty much hits the rev limiter. i'm about to do a plug kit on it but how much will this help? any other suggestions, intake grate, etc? thanks.
