'05 FXHO Crusier Speedo died?

Last summer while out riding, I thought I had sucked something into the intake as when I gave the ski the throttle it would vibrate and shutter. This lasted about 10mins (I was thinking I was going to have to be towed in). After about 10mins, it stopped and went back to normal and has been fine ever since except for one thing--my speedo doesn't work anymore. I'm thinking my "wheel" came apart and got sucked into the intake. My question is this, what's involved with fixing it? Is it a simple, "do-it-yourself" thing or does it really need to be pulled out of the lake and taken to the dealer for repairs and if that's the case, anyone have a ballpark what that might run, cost wise? thx!

part # F1S-U8K31-00-00 about $120.00 ski needs to be on a stand or trailer to fix it, easy job.
