1999 Yamaha XL1200 Ltd. Oil conversion

I am in the process of switching from quicksilver to amsoil in my ski. I am to the point where the oil indicator has sounded. Can i add the amsoil to whats left in the tank or should i completely drain the quicksilver prior to putting in the amsoil? Thanks.

It would be better to empty the tank 1st.
