  • 97' Venture1100 Reed / Carb Question

Checked my reeds while rebuilding the carbs. 3 of the 24 petals where not closed (touching cage). Replaced all 24, now none of them touch. My reed stops have a notch which matches the notch on the reeds. All are oriented the same direction. The stops can only go on one way. Service manual states that the notch is to be oreinted to the "right side". The "right side" would depend on which way you are viewing the cage.

Do the reeds have a upside up and downside down? I closely inspected them and they look flat, (not pre bent or bowed).
Should I try flipping the reeds over? (not matching the notch on the stops).

    Carbs:
The age old question. Popoff Pressure? I've read, 25-30, and 45-50. Which is it? Service manual does not address popoff setting at all. Used the small springs 1st as suggested in SBT instructons. Have 24-25.

    Thanks to all,

I have seen them not sit 100% flat and not be an issue when the engine is running. I would also set the pop-off at 50 psi
