  • 96 WVT1100 water in flywheel area

I purchased a WVT1100 a cpl weeks ago and first thing I did was check plugs and sparks and it had no spark. I tore into the elcertonics section and when I pulled the flywheel cover off it was full of water. My question is, Is there any way water can get into this area from the engine cooling system or maybe the previous owner let the hull fill up with rain water or something like that? It didn't make since to me and was just seeing if anyone has seen anything like this.

water should not get into this area for any reasons, If the cover seal has failed or the starter o-rings have failed then yes water will enter the area and damage the stater.

Thanks, That was what I was wanting to know. Everything is working good, replaced the CDI and cleaned up the area. The engine turns over great, I just wanted to make sure water didn't get from that area into the crankcase. Gonna put it back together and try to fire it up.
