I have overwhelmed myself with information regarding what my have happened to this piston, so I am asking opinions based on pictures. Is this detonation, foreign material entering combustion chamber, or something else? I ask this because I will be purchasing a new motor and I want to make sure I solve the problem before installing. To my knowledge, carbs have never been rebuilt. I am not sure of the hours on the ski and I cannot check for i have a dead battery right now. There is oil in the bottom of the hull, but it looks like it may have been coming from the connections to the reservoir itself...all oil lines were still connected. At this point the crank will not turn so I assume that pieces have fallen below the piston and have bound it up.
If it is not foreign material, and is detonation or something else...was it caused from fuel starvation or lack of oil? I appreciate any comments. This was the third cylinder/the one closest to the jet pump. I have included pics of cylinders one and two also.

Looks like detonation, carbs need to be checked out and maybe rebuilt, also you could have had a air leak causing the lean condition.
