  • 1995 Yamaha Wave Venture breaks up then quits

Here is the history, bought this ski new in '95.
It is completely stock 701 and routine maintenance done.
Ski has over 600 hours and has run flawless for 15 summers, carbs have never been touched, still has the oil injection hooked up (yes, its still working properly)

    Now, for the issue.
Pretty sure i know what the problem is, looking for someone to confirm in case I'm missing something simple.
Ski will run for 1/2 hour or so then begin breaking up and surging, then will quit all together. Once it quits ski will crank but not fire, when left sit for 4-5 minuets it will fire right up and run for another 5-10 minuets and quit.

When it first started with the hesitation and breaking up, took it back to the dock and drained the fuel, put in new plugs, new battery, new fuel filter and swapped out coil and wires from a buddy's ski.
Still having issue, thinking the stator is shot, but could there also be something wrong with the cdi box?

Test the stator when its acting up, if it ohms out then the cdi may be the issue. You did check for spark when it acts up correct?
