  • 03 Yamaha XLT1200.. How to make the engine reliable

I have heard tons of stories about these motors and several things that can make the engine go boom in a matter of seconds. What modifications should I perform to keep my engine from going again? I already have the motor apart and am terrified that something else is going to blow it again a few months after i get it back together.

How can I address the problems yamaha had with this motor and keep it reliable?

Switch to pre-mix and install wave eater clips on the power valves.

make sure you pressure test the engine for air leaks... and make sure the carbs are clean, adjusted correctly and functioning properly.
